From June 10 to 15, Rio de Janeiro hosts the second edition of DW! Design Week, held at Casa Shopping, in Barra da Tijuca.
Inspired by the theme “Connected Landscapes: creativity and technology shaping Rio design,” we present two premieres that strengthen the
dialogue between design and Brazilian artistic expressions.
THE CLASSICS
The first is the launch of the reissue of classics by Carlo Hauner. Carlo, who came from Italy, was one of the leading figures who helped bring to
Brazil, in the 1950s, a modern, functional, and elegant aesthetic to furniture design. In 2025, we are reissuing seven iconic pieces: Stool 01, Chair 03, Armchair 04, Side Table 05, Bench 06, Armchair 07 and Bench 08
Bench 08 is a piece with a slender profile and elongated proportions, distinguished by fine and elegant lines. The metal base provides structural lightness, while the slim upholstery adds subtle comfort to the minimalist aesthetic created by Carlo Hauner and Martin Eisler.
Versatility defines this lounge chair, which can be used with or without the leather seat. Its exceptional ergonomics are ensured by the wood-and-cord structure, which adapts to the body for enveloping comfort.
The wooden armrests enhance the piece’s welcoming character, making it an invitation to rest and contemplation.
GALLERY SPACE
In addition, we are opening two simultaneous exhibitions curated by Duilio Sartori, who has dedicated his career to design and art research –
one by the artist Ricardo Bueno, featuring a selection of his poetic and botanical production, and another by the ceramic artist from Sergipe Nino Karvan, who presents
new pieces inspired by the mangroves of Aracaju. To compose the exhibition, Sartori had at hand relevant pieces, from classics to contemporary creations.
Ricardo Bueno’s exhibition reveals part of his affective and material research with elements of nature, forming a delicate “Cabinet of
Curiosities,” composed of poetic objects and natural fragments collected in the Serra da Mantiqueira – a name of Tupi-Guarani origin that
means “the mountain that cries.” The result explores the relationship between humankind and nature, with a sensitive aesthetic connected to the territory.
Meanwhile, Nino Karvan’s “Manguetons” series starts from the material — clay — to speak of the mangrove as a visual and symbolic language. Inspired by the tones,
textures, and ancestry of the mangroves of Sergipe, Karvan develops ceramic pieces that evoke shells, lunar craters, rhizomes, and tides.
It is a body of work that unites traditional knowledge with a contemporary perspective on ceramic making
Both exhibitions value creation as an act of connection with time, territory, and sensibility. In this first phase, Sartori also
brings together names such as Jacqueline Terpins and Suka Braga, reinforcing a project built with time and attentive listening. “In a world saturated with
images and stimuli, I propose a curatorship that trades quantity for quality,” the curator concludes
