Novo Ambiente at DW! Rio

Publicado em 30 de August de 2024

Between September 3 and 8, DW! Rio will take place inside Casa Shopping, in Barra da Tijuca – RJ, and will feature a range of activities.

Novo Ambiente will have a special presence on September 4 with the launch of the Abaporu table, Joatinga pendant light, Naiá coffee table, Therezinha chair and stool, and the Rochinha side table, all pieces designed by Lucas Takaoka.

A 2015 graduate in Architecture and Urbanism from Mackenzie Presbyterian University, he always aimed to open his own firm. In late 2016, he began working on projects in the Brazilian Northeast remotely, which led to clients from other states seeking him out for new projects.

In 2018, he delved into the design market, creating signature furniture pieces that often arise from specific needs in architectural projects. Today, he partners with two factories that manufacture his products and sell them in major Brazilian capitals, such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, and Porto Alegre, among other states.

With his physical office opened in 2019, his design range now extends from signature furniture and landscaping to residential, commercial, and urban projects. He was even awarded second place in a public competition for the revitalization of Maringá’s urban center. His work focuses on residential projects, with his most recent one in New York.

This versatility is essential for working across the various scales encountered in a professional’s routine.

See below for more details about each piece designed by our designer:

Abaporu Table

In the oil-on-canvas Abaporú, modernist painter Tarsila do Amaral depicts the idealism of the Anthropophagic Movement established in 1926 by Oswald de Andrade. A ‘man who eats people’, alluding to the idea that international culture needed to be absorbed to the fullest. Thus the namesake table was born. Transfigured from Tarsila’s curvilinear lines and carved in wood, its openings in the top reveal the mouth of the passafio, ready to devour and anthropophagize external content.

Joatinga Pendant

“…the sound of water, the warmth of the sun, the scent of rain. From the sway of the boat, the fisherman sails across the vast blue, living the Caiçara everyday life.” From a narrative inspired by the Brazilian coast, a light fixture is born with canoe-like lines. Sculpted from solid wood and supported by sisal ropes.

Naiá Coffee Table

These pieces came about because of a client who loves hosting guests, so the layout of their apartment called for something that could adapt to the needs of the moment, like a playful idea. Inspired by a Tupi tale, the Naiá tables follow the shape of a giant water lily.

The table is inspired by indigenous folklore telling the story of Naiá, an indigenous woman in love with the Moon who dreamed of becoming a star by its side. One night, seeing its reflection in the river, she swam toward it in an attempt to touch it and never returned. In her honor, the Moon brought forth a star in the water: the white flower of the Victoria Amazonica.

Therezinha Chair and Stool

A childhood memory of playful walks through the corridors of Grandma’s house became an object that blends a classic past with an objective present. The distinctive scent of wood mixed with the aroma of drip coffee—shared moments rich in lessons and affection. A tribute to Grandma Therezinha.

Rochinha Side Table

Who would have thought that, leaving a job site and noticing an ice cream cart, the idea would arise to create a bar with a neutral look and the functionality of a side table? That is how the design of this piece came to be: it simply slides its body to the side, creating an opening to store glasses and bottles with subtlety.

In addition, we will also be launching two armchairs (Cecília and Cecília Refúgio) by Linda Martins for DonaFlor.
