Nelson Cigar Bubble Pendant Lamp
Designed by George Nelson in 1952, these elegant lamps are composed of a sturdy yet lightweight steel frame. Their delicate appearance makes the fixture seem to float.
The Nelson Bubble Lamps were inspired by a Swedish line of silk-covered pendant lamps that George Nelson wanted for his office, but found the price prohibitive. He then decided to create his own. An ingenious and creative designer, he developed the first version of the Bubble lamps using a translucent white plastic spray, a technique developed by the United States military. Nelson designed the lamps from basic organic shapes, resulting in variations such as the Apple pendant, the Pear wall lamp, the Lotus table lamp, and the Saucer pendant.
