Alexander Lorenz
Alex has an entrepreneurial approach to design that utilizes interdisciplinary skills from hands-on “craftsmanship,” technological tools, and algorithmic mathematics to produce innovative products and concepts for a variety of applications, from golf equipment to office furniture.
“The most enjoyable part of my work is when I’m at the computer. I really like playing with formulas and algorithms.”
The Kivo concept arose from Alex’s desire to create freestanding and visually inspiring structures from a small set of components that can be installed easily and in virtually any location. A process of elimination led Alex to base his design around the most efficient and versatile geometric shape available: the equilateral triangle.
With Kivo, Alex addressed the practical and emotional dichotomy of the modern workplace, which must balance the drive for openness, transparency, and flexibility with the deeply human desire to retreat to private, enclosed spaces.
