The Nelson Bubble Lamps were inspired by a Swedish line of silk-covered pendant lights that George Nelson wanted to buy for his office, but the price was prohibitive. He then decided to create his own. An ingenious and creative designer, he went on to develop the first version of the Bubble lamps using a translucent white plastic spray, a technique developed by the United States armed forces.
