Serrano Vase
Quartzites and sandstones from different origins and eras merge into a large mosaic. Erosion takes care of carving depressions and curves of different orders into the Serrano conglomerate. Inspired by the distinctive landscape of the Lençóis River bed in Chapada Diamantina, Jacqueline Terpins creates the Serrano vase and centerpiece in crystal. She defies the paths naturally indicated by the material in its incandescent state and shapes the piece with abrupt movement shifts, creating deep recesses using steel tools. The weathering endured and recorded by the stones over time is represented by the craquelé glassmaking technique that runs across part of the piece’s surface.
