Sagano Chaise
The name Sagano is a reference to the Sagano Bamboo Forest in Japan—one of the strongest visual and cultural references used throughout the creative process—representing a symbolic part of Japan’s complex culture. The insight for the collection came from observing the textures formed by different layers of bamboo, in varying thicknesses, shapes, and angles, overlapping as far as the eye can see. The study highlighted characteristics of Japanese woodworking, such as precision, efficient simplicity, and serenity, as well as a desire to reflect on this people’s cultural values. The legs are key elements: solid, robust, and oblong in shape; they set the tone for the entire design. Above them, the solid wood structure is carefully laid out to form a platform on which loose, soft futon-style cushions can be freely arranged as needed.
