The expression Riba, documented by Guimarães Rosa in several of his works, alludes to the popular language that is typically rural and Brazilian. It is the word used to refer to a location that is above the speaker or to the highest part of a certain area. In the word-object symbiosis, the meaning of Riba takes material form in the shelving unit’s own functionality. The Riba Shelving Unit’s structure ensures its stability through thread tension from floor to ceiling, eliminating the need for drilling for installation. Its fastening system at the top of its main rod, always seeking higher portions such as ceilings and elongated walls, is the characteristic that finds inspiration in its name, highlighting its requirement for mechanical locking as a way to connect product and concept. Capable of taking linear or sinuous forms, the Riba shelving unit can be an amorphous product due to its wide customization possibilities. The simplicity of assembly deserves special mention for featuring a unique patented lever-based joining system that eliminates the need for large quantities of screws. Through the reduction of the number of components, the Riba Shelving Unit was developed to extract the maximum from its joining elements, being the result of a meticulous project of understanding mechanical, aesthetic, and functional forces, as well as reflection on Rosa’s lexicon.
