Nelson Pear Bubble Pendant Lamp
Designed by George Nelson in 1952, these elegant lamps are composed of a sturdy yet lightweight steel frame. Their delicate appearance makes the lamp seem to float.
The Nelson Bubble Lamps were inspired by a Swedish line of silk-covered pendant lamps that George Nelson wanted for his office, but the price was prohibitive. He then decided to create his own lamps. An ingenious and creative designer, he created the first version of Bubble lamps using a translucent white plastic spray, a technique developed by the United States military. Nelson designed the lamps from basic, organic shapes, resulting in variations such as the Apple pendant, the Pear wall sconce, the Lotus table lamp, and the Saucer pendant.
