Sérgio J. Matos, 39, born in Paranatinga, a small town in the state of Mato Grosso, considered the gateway to the Amazon for being the Mato Grosso municipality closest to Xingu Park, moved to Brazil’s Northeast in 2001 to study Design at the Federal University of Campina Grande,
where he graduated in 2005. Having been born in a region near the Xingu Indigenous reserve, surrounded by the forest’s natural diversity, he learned early on to be curious about getting to know, admiring, and observing this culture, which awakened and encouraged him to find ways to work with these natural materials and the striking characteristics of this culture.
