The new AALAND upholstery collection, designed by Patricia Urquiola, draws inspiration from the image of archipelagos—groups of neighboring islands that create a sense of cohesion within a fluid space. This singular concept runs through every element of the collection: the seats’ soft, organic forms extend and merge, creating small islands that open up new spaces for comfort and togetherness. AALAND challenges the classic rules of upholstery to embrace free, unexpected, multifunctional shapes, moving beyond traditional seating styles. The collection offers countless small seats that, together, compose a landscape dotted with opportunities for socializing. Sofas, armchairs, large and small ottomans are presented as miniature islands, connecting and complementing one another through an organic language. No upholstered piece stands alone; all contribute to a cohesive whole. Individually designed in more compact sizes, the collection’s upholstered items offer the flexibility to be easily moved and rearranged as needed. Completing this landscape are three sizes of AALAND rugs, defined by a unique graphic motif. This motif depicts two rounded organic shapes, each with different fills, placed close to one another and joined by a graphic element—a kind of seam. This feature creates a striking visual effect, further enriching the visual impact and liveliness of the surrounding space.
