Stefan Diez

Having grown up in a 4th-generation carpentry household, Stefan Diez’s early ties to craftsmanship profoundly shaped his development as an industrial designer. Following family tradition, he trained as a cabinetmaker before studying industrial design under Richard Sapper at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart. After working with Konstantin Grcic for several years, Stefan founded DIEZ OFFICE in Munich upon graduating in 2002.
From 2007 onward, Stefan served as Professor of Industrial Design at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, joining the School of Industrial Design in Lund, Sweden, in 2015. Since 2018, Stefan Diez has been Head of Industrial Design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
In 2008, DIEZ OFFICE fundamentally renovated and moved into the premises of a former carpentry workshop, the ideal platform for Diez’s distinctive combination of hands-on experimentation and technical know-how. Driven by curiosity and supported by a network of local craftsmen and specialists, DIEZ OFFICE is dedicated to transforming ideas into real products with great diligence and expertise.
Together with his team, Stefan Diez is particularly focused on the potential of a circular economy, exploring a broad spectrum of everyday products whose raw materials can be recycled and integrated into a more sustainable material cycle. This approach has led to the creation of award-winning furniture, lighting, and accessories, in collaboration with internationally renowned manufacturers such as Rosenthal, Thonet, HAY, e15, Magis, Vibia, Viccarbe, Wagner, and many more.
