Mario Botta

Mario Botta was born in 1943 in Mendrisio, Switzerland. In his work, he was inspired by masters such as Le Corbusier, Louis I. Kahn, and Carlo Scarpa, whom he met during his studies in Venice.
Architecture and memory are inseparable in his work, where architectural changes become part of the human landscape. Light generates space; primary geometric shapes are distinctive marks left by man in his surroundings. From his first isolated houses in the Canton of Ticino, his work has spanned all types of buildings (schools, banks, administrative buildings, libraries, museums, and religious buildings), as well as design.
