Marc Newson

Marc Newson graduated from the University of Sydney in 1986 and, with the help of a grant from the Australian Crafts Council, held his first solo exhibition at the age of 23. The exhibition featured his “Lockheed Lounge,” a riveted aluminum chaise longue that became the most iconic contemporary design piece. About 30 years later, he set four world records at auction for work created by a living designer. His design pieces remain highly sought-after on the secondary market and, in 2010, accounted for 24% of total auction sales in the category at Sotheby’s, Christie’s, and Phillips.
Marc is the only designer represented by the Gagosian Gallery, and the world’s leading museums have already held retrospective exhibitions of his work.
