Janete Costa
More than 3,000 projects in her portfolio, awards, and curator of numerous exhibitions inside and outside
Brazil. This is just part of the legacy left by the architect from Pernambuco, Janete
Costa (1932–2008). With a discerning eye and without prejudice, she shone a light on Brazilian craftsmanship,
placing it on equal footing with works by renowned artists. Her work was greatly
influenced by craftsmanship, including the furniture and objects she developed for her
interior design projects. Her children Lúcia Santos, Mário Santos, and Roberta Borsoi, together with
designer Rodrigo Ambrosio from Alagoas, have revived part of the architect’s creations and are
relaunching them with minor adjustments, resources that Janete did not have at the time. “Janete,
a Brazilian designer,” as the theme itself states, showcases the designer side of this professional.
A woman ahead of her time.
