Issey Miyake
Issey Miyake founded Miyake Design Studio in 1970 and began presenting his collections in Paris in 1973. Miyake’s exploration of the space created between the body and the fabric that surrounds it has evolved, always starting from a single piece of cloth. Miyake has always looked toward the future and the next stage of design, whether in his functional and versatile “PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE” series (1993-) or in the “A-POC” series (A Piece of Cloth/ 1998-), which introduced a unique process by which continuous rolls of fabric, texture, and garments could be made from a single thread. Today, Miyake works with his research and development team, called Reality Lab, to explore new manufacturing possibilities and develop the distinctive characteristics of “regenerative” materials, always mindful of the need for research and development of materials that address the scarcity of our natural resources and environmental preservation.
