Freddy Van Camp
Designer Freddy Van Camp is considered by many to be a master of his profession (something he finds a complete exaggeration), accumulating awards throughout his successful career. He graduated from Esdi (Superior School of Industrial Design) in 1968, with postgraduate studies at UCLA-USA and HfBK Braunschweig-Germany. He worked at several companies until establishing his firm, Van Camp Design, in 1980, of which he is a founding partner. He moved to Campinas-SP from 1982 to 1992 and was a professor at UNICAMP from 1984 to 1992. He returned to Rio de Janeiro, where he lived until 2013. He served as director of Esdi for two terms, from 1992 to 1996 and from 2000 to 2004, where he still teaches. He focuses on product, interior, packaging, exhibition, signage, and systems design. He is a member of ADP, ABEDESIGN, and ADG, and is an author and translator of books on the subject. “Design culture has become increasingly established, even without official or institutional support.”
