Bringing personality to the table

The Keyn chair group, designed by London-based forpeople, is a collection of meeting and side chairs for collaborative spaces featuring a unique sliding shell structure, with backrest and seat, to provide immediate comfort.

Observations in meetings showed that people move continuously in their seats, leaning forward or stretching back, often up to 57 times per hour; therefore, early in the process, the designers knew they wanted the chair to move. People expect movement in their office chair, so it made perfect sense to ensure a chair for collaborative spaces also supported and responded to these movements.

Visually, Keyn is a chair with many personalities. It uses four key pieces to create each model in the group, so that each maintains a universal appeal, marked by a range of base and upholstery options. Keyn chairs can stand out independently, but can also work in harmony as a family.

The fully upholstered version offers additional comfort and creates an opportunity to reveal an optional color tone through the perforation in the backrest.

“The premise of forpeople focuses on understanding people in the routine of daily life — and using that knowledge to guide our design.”
