It is extraordinary how a chair designed in 1958 as outdoor seating still manages to look both classic and contemporary in 21st-century interiors. Innovation in comfort
Never known for favoring style over substance, Charles and Ray Eames gave the chair designs an innovative suspension that creates a firm yet flexible “sitting pocket” that subtly conforms to the body’s shape. They created this suspension by stretching a continuous piece of upholstery from the back to the seat, tensioned between lightweight aluminum side ribs. The foam cushions of the Soft Pad chairs do not flatten or clump over time.
Pneumatic control and tilt lock are available as options on management and executive models.
Durability
With unique curved side ribs and a die-cast aluminum base, the chair is strong yet lightweight and easy to move.
Expansion Options
Give this timeless design a high degree of customization with various material options. Start with the sophisticated touch of leather, either standard or premium MCL – a 100 percent natural grain, dyed semi-aniline leather. Another option is to combine MCL leather cushions with a sling seat/back suspension and a Hallingdal color scheme – a refined blend of wool and rayon. This subtle contrast of textures adds a touch of sophistication to the design. Color variations and surface marks are inherent characteristics of leather, which acquires wrinkles and folds and develops a patina over time.
To complement lighter materials, we offer powder-coated finishes on the base and frame, along with traditional polished aluminum. Chairs with a 4-star base come with non-marring glides, while chairs with a 5-star base offer a choice of casters for hard floors or carpets.
