Carlo Hauner (1927–1996) arrived in Brazil in 1948 and encountered the Brazilian modernist context of the mid-20th century, in a climate filled with optimism driven by the economic and social progress linked to the end of World War II. Of Italian origin, he settled in the cosmopolitan city of São Paulo and immediately founded the company “Móveis Artesanal” in 1950 with the aim of producing modern furniture. Martin Eisler (1913 – 1977), an Austrian architect and set designer, studied architecture in his home country before moving to Argentina to escape World War II. He was one of the founding partners of Forma, initially called Móveis Artesanais, in the late 1950s, which was brought to Brazil due to the needs surrounding the founding of Brasília. He founded the company Interieur, which after the creation of Forma in Brazil, also took on that name—a company that remains with the family to this day.
