Designed by Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick, 1994

When designers Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick set out to create a chair that was health-positive, cross-performing, inclusive of all user sizes, and environmentally sensitive, they arrived at a design the world had never seen before. Aeron demonstrated a pioneering step in ergonomic and material innovation, offering a comfortable solution without the standard use of foam, fabric, or leather. It changed people’s perception of what an office chair could be—and, in doing so, soon found a place in popular culture.

Remastered by Don Chadwick, 2016

Fast-forward to today, and the same criteria serve as the foundation for an all-new Aeron. Just as iconic albums and films are updated for new media, standards, and audiences, Aeron has been remastered based on Herman Miller’s latest research into the science of sitting, advances in materials, manufacturing, and technology, and today’s world of work.

The office of 1994 would not be recognizable today. With all the changes that have taken place, it only makes sense that Aeron could also evolve to better meet the work needs of today’s workers and workplaces.

“We wanted a totally new chair.”
