It all begins with an interview with Tom Jobim in the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro, specifically in front of the famous Victoria Regia lily pond. That was several decades ago… On that occasion, Tom spoke about his great fascination with the Victoria Regia plant. This interview remained etched in the mind of designer Leonardo Lattavo, at the time still a child. Since then, it awakened in him a peculiar curiosity about Victoria Regias to the point that, many years later, they became a genuine source of inspiration. The designers at Lattoog, as true Cariocas, bossa nova fans, and neighbors to the famous pond, present here a new piece that honors and acknowledges the influence they received from Tom Jobim. The Tom modular sofa makes direct reference to the iconic circular aquatic plant, native to the Amazon region. Its modules feature perfectly round or oblong geometries with subtractions that allow the pieces to interlock. Six different seating modules and three table modules compose the set. Like the plant itself, its charm and sculptural value arise from the random grouping of its round volumes in various sizes. This strategy of bringing together diverse modules creates a series of situations conducive to comfort and pleasant interaction with different ergonomics, sizes, and functions that transform the home space into a clear analogy to the landscape of ponds inhabited by Victoria Regias. Surrender to the Tom sofa and its loose, light, and relaxed compositions, just like our Bossa Nova.
